Poker Proves Very Entertaining for Central Coast Couple

Central Coast couple Craig and Carmen Evans may not have made it to the money at the MAIN EVENT, but they went home a lot richer thanks to Full House Group.

Both keen APL players, the couple went to the MAIN EVENT in the hope of bringing home a share of $550,000 but instead decked out their living room with some unexpected prizes.

On the final day a draw was held for an entertainment package from JB Hi-Fi.

Both Mr and Mrs Evans happened to be at the right place at the right time.

“We were both out of the tournament, my wife was playing a cash table and was watching the action on the Final Table,” he said.

“I was given a ticket and the table my wife was at was in reaching distance of the girl handing out lucky envelopes so I asked her to give one to Carmen as well.

“I don’t normally win anything, my wife is the lucky one so we were wrapped.”

The couple used their vouchers to replace their existing 67cm television set with a 27cm plasma television, 80cm LCD for Mrs Evans’ favourite shows and a Yamaha sound system.

“We would like to thank APL and JB Hi-Fi for all the help making this such a great experience,” Mr Evans said.

“We had a wonderful time, the event was run very well, the party night was great and the prizes given out over the three days was fun – especially first place!”

The couple is currently trying to qualify for the next MAIN EVENT to be held later this year.

MAIN EVENT EXCEEDS ALL EXPECTATIONS!

The success of the inaugural MAIN EVENT held at Melbourne’s Crown Casino has forever changed the landscape of poker in Australia.

Under the visionary leadership of Full House Group - Australia’s largest provider of pub poker, players from Australian Poker League, 888PL and Pub Poker for the first time sat side by side, all vying for the national title of inaugural MAIN EVENT Champion.

Attracting 559 of Australia’s best pub poker players, the inaugural MAIN EVENT provided a unique and creative structure, while still managing to maintain the tradition of qualification-only entry.

With a total prize pool of more than $550,000, including a first prize package valued at $120,000 (including $100,000 cash, $15,000 Aussie Millions package and $5,000 ruby-encrusted bracelet) The MAIN EVENT exceeded all expectations.

After a heated three-day battle, it was NSW players who dominated the final table with seven of the final 10 contenders hailing from the state. Queensland was in the running represented by Sean Henderson and Jason Hamilton, while Jim O’Bryan, the only final table contender with a home ground advantage was knocked out by NSW Nathan Gauci on hand seven.

Gauci, who entered the final table battle as chip leader with more $3 million,

continued his domination and was later crowned inaugural MAIN EVENT Champion.

A controversial figure within the poker community, the Illawarra North-based player never looked under threat including during a final heads up battle with NSW grandmother of five Marion Fisher.

If Gauci’s daunting 14.3 million chip stack intimidated Campbelltown-based Fisher at the start of the heads up war it certainly didn’t show as she risked her stack (2.4 million) in an aggressive fight calling all-in pre-flop several times before the final blow came on hand 17.

Gauci limped before Fisher again announced all-in. Gauci considered a call and, for the first time during the heads-up contest, he called. Fisher revealed Qd-6d, then Gauci smashed his As-8s on to the table.

The flop of Ad-9s-7c putting Gauci firmly in the lead, but the turn 2d gave Fisher a flush draw. It didn’t eventuate, with the 3s sending Gauci tearing out of the tournament area to kick-off celebrations with his mates.
